Our baboons, the Groot Olifantsbos troop, have spent the past six weeks down at Olifantsbos in the Reserve. A welcome relief after a torrid eight months of raiding! We (Scarborough and Misty Cliffs) pay for an extra monitor to ensure that the monitor team is strong enough to have a reasonable chance of keeping them there.

Every single day, apparently, William tried a new trick to escape the monitors. Two weeks ago, he finally got away and was back in the village with a female and an infant. Raiding all day. Many nights he spent on 182, 178 or 26 Hilltop. When we managed to dislodged them they slept in the caves behind Misty Cliffs. Only to be back in Scarborough at 08h00 the next morning.

On a few occasions, we had some of the monitors come back from the Reserve to try and get William out of the village. This was risky, because it is now Split Lip who is trying to escape.

No attempt to get William out was successful until 5pm on Wednesday afternoon when Mzukhise and three extra monitors managed to get them out from behind Misty Cliffs. And they are now all down in the Reserve.

Now it is a matter of keeping them there . . .

Regards, Graham
