Increasing numbers of Scarborough & Misty Cliffs homes are separating recyclable from non-recyclable refuse. We hope the waste from our village needing landfill disposal will in this way be reduced by a half. If all of the Far South Peninsula, and then all of Cape Town, can be that successful, we shall avoid a rapid increase in removal and disposal charges.

Here is how it works.
* Each home gets a recycling bag, weekly.
• Place full bag in your wheelie bin, on top of other waste.
• The bags will be collected (by a recycler) before the bin is emptied.
• A new bag will be supplied weekly in return for your full one.
• If you don't get a bag, collect one from either Scarborough Security or from Graham Noble, 651 Beach Road.

• Keep recyclable material separate from the rest of your waste right from the start.
• Rinse bottles, cans and plastic containers.
• Flatten plastic and cardboard containers and fold newspapers flat to save space.
• Place the recyclable items in the "clear" plastic recycling bag provided.
• If possible take white & colour plastic/metal bottle caps/tops and other interesting items to KEAG at Imhoff's Farm for jewelry.

Recyclable materials:
• Paper products: Clean, dry and flat newspaper, office paper, cardboard and magazines
• Glass bottles and jars
• Plastic bottles and containers – beverage, food and other containers including margarine, ice cream, yoghurt, shampoo and household detergent containers
• Food tins and drink cans
• Plastic bags, sheets, bubble wrap and bottle tops.

Non-recyclable materials:
• Polystyrene or foam food trays and cups.
• Cling wrap or disposable nappies.
• Tooth paste tubes or foil-lined tetrapacks.
• Window glass.
• Containers that once held paint, motor oil, acid, solvents or chemicals.
• Garden refuse (compost or take to drop-off behind Compass Bakery).
• Organic material waste such as food scraps, vegetable peels etc. (compost in secure aboon-proof container).
• Clothing or shoes.
• Anything wet, dirty or covered in grass clippings.
