hi all, i've just purchased a plot of land in scarborough. the next step is building the perfect house on it... i've followed the various exchanges on the recent baboon saga. whatever the outcome, there will (and shall) always be some baboons in our neighbourhood. hence in order to build the house as "baboon proof" as possible without constucting a fortress where no air gets in anymore, i was wondering about other peoples experiences in baboon proofing their homes. how does one keep open windows without inviting hairy guests...? any thoughts and your experiences are most welcome. thanx tobias |

Hi Tobias,
We have found that a few sensible precautions are all that is required; it isn't necessary to turn your house into a fortress.
1. When you go out close your doors and windows.
2. When you are in open them if you like, but keep an ear out for dogs barking -- they will give you plenty of warning that the baboons are around. Close doors and windows until they have moved off elsewhere.
3. Baboon proof your bin according to the guidelines on this site.
4. Don't do anything that will attract baboons into your garden. Mainly don't grow fruit or anything else that baboons like to eat, or put out bird feeders &c.
5. If they do get into your house they can be easily evicted by spraying water at them from a spray bottle or water pistol, just don't spray them from a position between them and their escape route.
Cheers, Mark
